Jim Moreno's "RoleCraft" MMO Column

Jim Moreno takes a look at the latest developments in role-playing around the MMO genre in this column.

Jim points his fellow roleplayers to yet another must have RP addon which should come in very handy!

Enter Emotomania! RP addons are a godsend for us roleplayers, and after using and testing this one over the last month, I have added it to my list of core RP addons which I recommend to every avid roleplayer.

This week's article, part 2 covering Shattrath City, adds to and will complete the RP City Tour series. I mean it this time. I hope...

As I suspected, Aldor Rise is not far from having the same set up as the Scryer's Tier, and I took a guess at there being mainly four sites on the Aldor side to focus on, and it paid off.

This week Jim winds up the RP City Tour series with a stroll around Shattrath City.

In this last of the RP City Tour articles, at least until the next expansion, walk with me as I share a few tips about where the good places are to go here for some potentially good RP times.

Postponing the next RP City Tour article series until next week, Jim instead honors a friend and fellow roleplayer with this tribute.

"I'd just like to say thanks to all my friends, and everyone that's helped me along the way. This is the highest I've been in the game, and it's been a great ride so far!"

Sorry for the delay, folks! Here's the next RP city tour article, wherein Jim says players may have to nix hopes of having an RP event inside The Exodar:

Fear not, though, for this week's RP City Tour is not without a silver lining, which comes in the equally beautiful and more sinister home of the Blood Elves, Silvermoon City. Again, the number and quality of places for potential RP here is reversed from any other Horde city. In my mind, the entire city seems to actually want to lend itself over to roleplayers, but there are a few specific locations where I have seen and participated in some excellent RP events.

Bring out your dead for Jim's next article in the RP City Tour series, as he gives us a look into The Undercity.

The entire ambiance which permeates the city is right on in helping set the mood for getting into an Undead character. I don't find that any other city does so well a job in helping a player really feel like they are roleplaying their race like The Undercity. Having said that, alas, it is yet again evident that this Horde city just didn't get the RP TLC that was given to the Alliance homes.

Ironforge is the focus of this week's article in the RP City Tour series,

Ironforge is the cavernous home of the Dwarves and Gnomes of the Alliance, hidden deeply and safely within a rock shielding to rival our own real life Cheyenne Mountain Complex. Continuing the article series looking at potential quality RP places within the major cities of WoW, Ironforge is indeed on par with Stormwind, as I predicted in the last article. In fact, if you care to RP your Alliance character(s) as having a solid home to retire to after a hard days' adventuring, look no further than Ironforge.

In the second of an article series spotlighting places for roleplayers to meet and greet, Jim disparages the total lack of such places in two Horde cities in hopes that Blizzard's wizards will take note!

Even with my rather vivid and rampant imagination, I found it very difficult to imagine anything to draw the interest of RP'ers within these two Horde strongholds. However, that's not to say I came up with a complete blank. I'll show what I did find.

WoW WarCry's weekly guide to roleplaying begins a series of articles designed to show roleplayers where the best places for RP exist in and around Azeroth.

With this week's edition of the RP Guide, I'm starting a series of articles taking a much closer look at locations throughout the World of Warcraft that are primed and waiting for RP'ers. The first article in the series kicks off with a tour of Stormwind!

In this week's edition of the RP Guide, Jim takes a look at player knowledge vs. character knowledge, and where to go for the latter:

So, the question is: how do you share what you know now with your character at its 'birth'? Considering our true selves do not currently live in a tangible world of elves and demons, what do I need to learn as a player about such a world that would greatly enhance my roleplaying a character who does exist in such a world? Read along with me as I share some thoughts and ideas that may help you do just that.

Article 4 of WoW WarCry's RP Guide discusses a tip for the many alchemists out there.

In the World of Warcraft, the alchemist carries basically the same description as what we have come to know from our own world. The alchemist is one who takes natural and base elements and ingredients and mixes them into something arcane, or transforms them into something altogether greater than the sum of its parts. However, considering that the surreal aspects of this once spiritual and philosophical discipline have long been archaic, it's a safe bet that very few of us playing WoW have any real-world experience from which to base RP'ing an alchemist character upon. Fear not, my friends, for I have a couple of tips that just may help you get into a better RP mix when it comes time to play the role of mystical street pharmacist.

This week brings installment 3 of Jim Moreno's RP Guide, "Wherefore Art Thou RP?"

Early last week I was perusing the Role-Playing section in the official WoW Forums, when I got to noticing a trend that I had missed before. If you've ever browsed the posts there, you may know as I do that there are many threads started by people who are jumping into RP for the first time. Many of their questions and concerns evolve around how to RP correctly. However, there is another underlying item many are seeking advice for, at least as I understand it, and that is the question "Where do I RP?"

Jim Moreno's

I apologize for the lateness in getting this up this week, but here it is! Our second installment of Jim Moreno's WoW WarCry RP Guide.

This week:

Language and speech are the two primary methods of interaction we humans use to communicate with each other. While I'm sure you appreciate me stating the obvious, I want to bring the fact to your attention because that truth holds steady even in WoW, and may even take on a greater importance in the entire MMORPG genre.

This week marks the launch of Jim Moreno's very own Roleplaying Guide. Roleplaying is not something we hear much about, Jim is hoping to change that with this weekly column.

Roleplaying! That's how I enjoy every minute logged in to the World of Warcraft. At the ending of a typical work day, when it's time to relax the mind and spirit, the very last thing I want to do is fire up a computer GAME and WORK. Notice the oxymoron there? Being that it is indeed called a 'game', one would think that the implied 'fun' that is supposed to be had would be obvious. Alas, that seemingly and sadly is not the case for so many players I cross paths with in WoW. If you feel I may be talking to you, then I hearken you continue to hear me out.

Enjoy!
